Step onto the bus – and into the story of Kansas City.
The Dividing Lines Immersion Experience is a half-day, interactive journey designed for youth and adults to learn, reflect, and engage together. We especially recommend this experience for 4th grade and up, with a parent or guardian.
Together, we’ll explore the racial divisions that have shaped our city – and the people and communities working toward healing today. Through documentary storytelling, guided conversation, and time spent in key neighborhoods – from Prairie Village to 18th & Vine – we’ll trace the legacy of redlining and housing discrimination, and consider what it means for us now.
This is not a sit-and-listen experience. We’ll move, walk, talk, and reflect along the way. Expect a walking tour through the historic 18th & Vine district, moments for discussion across generations, and space to ask honest questions.
We’ll pack sack lunches and enjoy snacks together, with built-in movement and breaks throughout the day.
This isn’t just a history lesson – it’s an opportunity to see our city with new eyes, connect with neighbors, and consider how we can participate in building a more just and unified community.
Please arrive at Hillcrest Covenant Church by 9 a.m. We will be packing sack lunches and leaving by 9:15 a.m. We are unable to hold the bus in order to stay on schedule for our stops.
